PROCESS

For our final project, we had to pair up to animate one of our posters. We went with Chang Wing's poster on a Rustic Potato Pie. Due to some extenuating circumstances, we had an additional day to work on and submit our assignment. This is the poster that we referred to for our animation.

More about poster : Chang Wing's Project 1

We started off by watching the video and reading the recipe. Then, we drew a rough storyboard flow to present our ideas to Mr Kannan.

After our consultation, we had converted our idea into a illustration and a more concise storyboard.

However, during the process of the project, we realised that the time we allocated wasn't enough so we went back to the storyboard to do some corrections and edit and timing issues.

After finalising our initial storyboard, we made a timing map to allocate our time slots. During the actual progression of the project however we did have to change the timing of certain scenes as we also changed and updated our storyboards.

For the animatics, there will be a slight difference in flow as we did make changes along the way. The first part was drawn by me and the later half is done by my partner.

These are the assets I used for my part. I put them all into an AI file that we turned into a Team Project so that we could both access and reuse the assets.

I started off by importing the assets from the poster into the new Team Project file. Then, I edited some of the assets to better fit the angle of the shots we wanted.

Then I also created backgrounds base off the original Pasta Grannies video of Nonna Laura. After the backgrounds were done, we discussed and decided to tweak the colours to be warmer as the original poster my partner did leaned warmer while the original kitchen in the video was more grey-ish.

Then I imported the AI file into After Effects to continue the animation process. I went through one obstacle while processing and that was that I had designed the wrong size for the composition. So, I went back into Illustrator to fixed the background and did the necessary tweaks in After Effects.

Once all the animation was done and my partner had sent me her files, I edited any small tweaks needed before importing everything into Premiere Pro to add in the sound effects, music as well as text. I played around with different font sizes and colour to better showcase the text while editing to find the best option.

This is a compilation of my working process for my parts of the project. I mainly worked in two softwares; Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro.
