PROCESS
For this project, we had to design an instructable poster based on a recipe of our choosing from Pasta Grannies on Youtube. I personally love eating pasta so I ended up picking a pasta recipe that I would personally try, which was the Tagliatelle recipe from Adriana.
There is also a written recipe on their website which I referred to as well. It helped me with the specific steps as well as measurements for the ingredients. Here's the link to the recipe: Adriana's Tagliatelle.
Afterwards, I went on to Pinterest to look for some examples and inspiration for my design. I chose these four design to help inspire my design direction.
I liked how the ingredients are on the side and how they included some backstory to the design as well. Using this inspiration, I started playing with layouts in Illustrator.
I preferred the layout on left as it felt more neat and easier flow. After selecting my layout, I started trying out different fonts to see which one would be better. I wanted a font that felt like natural and not so formatted. I ended up going with the "Hey Eloise" font.
For my assets, I went for the illustrated style. I drew all my ingredients and steps in Procreate before importing them into my Illustrator. Below is a compiled timelapse of my drawing process in Procreate.
At first I wanted to do a colour palette that leaned to sunny and warm countryside feel but it felt a little off. So then I rewatched the video, and decided to do the background to reflect the one in the video. I tried to match the colour exactly but I didn't like it. Instead, I created to colour options.
I started off with the darker option but as I continued working, I realised it look a little muddy and the words were a bit hard to read. So I pivoted to the lighter version that was brighter.
I ended up also switching the centre layout a little to better fit everything and make it more readable. I then added in the map that I drew in Illustrator.
