MOODBOARD
For this task, it was for both the assignment submission and Honor competition. So we had to pick from four themes to design. I ended up choosing "Renewal of Life - Return : Enviromental Protection." So my idea was to create a design where it shows that something small like watering a plant can help the Earth.

For this I used ChatGPT create my sketch. This below is the prompt I used and the outcome.

I first designed in Illustrator before importing the footage into After Effects to animate. Below is the outcome of my task.
RATIONALE : I chose the theme Renewal of Life – Return: Environmental Protection because I wanted to create something that felt soft, hopeful, and meaningful. The idea that stuck with me was how small actions — like watering a plant — can represent much bigger ideas like healing, growth, and care for the environment. That’s how the character Tyler was created. He’s a young boy, calm and focused, doing something simple but powerful: giving life to a plant. In the illustration, I placed Tyler in a peaceful, natural setting surrounded by big leafy plants, soft hills, and a quiet rabbit. I used those elements to build a mood of stillness and healing. The rabbit, in particular, adds a sense of life and innocence. In the background, I added the ruins of old buildings to represent the past — a reminder of what’s been damaged — but made sure they were faded and being overtaken by nature. That part was important to me: to show that even after destruction, recovery is still possible. I chose calm, earthy colours — mostly greens and browns — to reflect nature, with a few brighter details like the pink flower and blue water drops to draw the viewer’s eye. The layout is kept simple and balanced to focus on the connection between Tyler and the environment. To me, this artwork is about quiet strength — the idea that protecting the environment doesn’t always have to be dramatic. Sometimes it starts with something small and gentle, like one kid caring for one plant. That’s the feeling I wanted this piece to carry.

REFLECTION
This task felt meaningful because it was the first time I tied my character to a bigger message. Choosing Renewal of Life – Return: Environmental Protection gave me a strong starting point, but translating that idea into something soft and quiet rather than dramatic was a challenge at first. I kept thinking about how small actions — like watering a plant — can still hold a lot of power, and that became the foundation for Tyler’s story and pose.
Designing the background was where I learned the most. I wanted the ruins to show the past damage without overpowering the peaceful mood, so fading them into the distance felt like the right choice. Balancing the natural elements — leafy plants, soft hills, the rabbit — with muted, earthy colours also helped the composition feel calm and grounded. The brighter details, like the flower and water drops, taught me how to guide the viewer’s eye without cluttering the piece.
Overall, I’m happy with how cohesive the mood turned out. It feels like one complete scene rather than separate elements placed together. If I had more time, I’d push the textures and details further, especially in the plants and ruins, to make the environment feel even richer. Still, this project reminded me how subtle choices — soft colours, quiet poses, small symbols — can express hope and renewal just as strongly as bold ones.
